About Bing West:

Bing West is a best-selling military historian. A graduate of Georgetown and Princeton Universities, he fought as a Marine grunt in Vietnam. He later served as Assistant Secretary of Defense under President Reagan and as Dean of Research at the Naval War College. His dozen books have chronicled our wars in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. He is the co-author of Call Sign Chaos: Learning to Lead, written with General Jim Mattis.

His articles appear in The Wall St. Journal, The New York Times, The Atlantic, National Review and The Washington Post. He is a member of the Hoover Military Historians Group at Stanford University, the Council on Foreign Relations and the Infantry Order of St. Crispin.  His web site is westauthors.com

His latest book is The Last Platoon: A Novel of the Afghanistan War. Based on years of embeds across Afghanistan, the novel describes both the confusion of top Washington officials and battlefield leaders ensnared in a fight to the death. CBS has called it “one of the most important books of the year.” Retired General Tony Zinni wrote, “The Last Platoon gives us a raw, passionate feel for what warriors go through and the price paid in blood for ill thought-out missions.”
